Theresa Katherine Marks Boersma

Theresa照片.jpg  Theresa Boersma is an accomplished journalist and writer, bringing her wealth of experience and passion for communication to her role as an English teacher at Changzhou Senior High School. Born in San Diego, California, and raised in Austin, Texas, and Seattle, Washington, Theresa's diverse background and global perspective enrich her teaching approach.


With a bachelor's degree earned from the University of Washington in 2004, Theresa embarked on a journey that has taken her across continents and cultures. In 2006, she relocated to Dalian, China. During her time in Dalian, Theresa made significant contributions to the field of journalism. She anchored two English language evening news programs and wrote for expat magazines, honing her communication skills and storytelling abilities. After moving to Changzhou in 2014, she pioneered the creation of Changzhou's first bilingual magazine, showcasing her commitment to fostering cultural exchange and understanding.


Theresa's passion for education and her unwavering dedication to the community led her to establish an independent nonprofit foreign language library, providing valuable resources to language learners and enthusiasts alike. Her profound understanding of the importance of information and communication, particularly during challenging times, was further evident as she supported Changzhou’s expat community in navigating the complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic.


Theresa's desire to expand her knowledge and expertise led her to pursue a master's degree in American Journalism from New York University during the pandemic, demonstrating her resilience and determination. Currently, she is pursuing a second master's degree in Data, Inequality and Society at the University of Edinburgh, equipping herself with essential skills to meet the ever-evolving needs of her students.


Now, as an English teacher at Changzhou Senior High School, Theresa brings her multifaceted background, journalistic acumen, and passion for empowering others to the classroom. Her approach is characterized by dynamic and engaging teaching methods that foster a love for language learning. By utilizing her extensive communication skills and cross-cultural experiences, she aims to create an inclusive and inspiring environment where students can thrive academically and personally.
