Last week, an international debate curriculum training was held in Wuxi No. High School. This training lasted 4 days, from May 24th to 27th. Our school teachers, Qin yi and Qian dongmei attended it, as well as over 100 teachers from China’s other top high schools in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Nanjing and Wuxi.

This activity is organized by Harvard Debate Education Program, including Society for Cultivating Innovators, Innovation Method Society, Dipont Education Management Group, Harvard Debate Council and National Forensic League (NFL). It mainly introduces the US Public Forum debate format, with the purpose of recruiting high school students as debaters and organizing tournaments nationwide and abroad.

Regarding NFL, it is a non-profit honorary society created to recognize high school students and debate. Its mission lies in promoting high school and middle school speech and debate activities as a means to develop a student’s essential skills and values. Its vision is that every child will be empowered to become an effective communicator, ethical individual, critical thinker, and leader in a democratic society. And this time, it comes to China, with the hope of benefiting Chinese students’ overall abilities through English language.

Within the 4 days, Stefan Bouschard, Ryan Galloway, Adam Jacobi and Anand Rao gave lectures on the introduction and value of debate, the introduction of Public Forum Debate, and academic debate process, skills as well as strategies involved. Last but not the least this time’s training serves as a prelude for the whole program. After several months, the NFL and Dipont Group would put forward their curriculum courses, students’ debate camping plan, teacher training courses, regional tournaments so on and so forth. So, welcome to give your own voice!
